Belt-driven elevators use flat PU-coated steel belts (e.g. Schindler Bionic Drive, KONE EcoDisc) instead of round wire ropes. Multiple small-diameter steel cords in polyurethane jacket offer higher flexibility, lower bending stress, and smaller sheave diameters enabling compact gearless machines. Service life is typically 8–12 years with periodic visual inspection.
