What certifications should an elevator installation company hold?
In Turkey, elevator installation companies must be authorized by the relevant municipal authority and comply with Turkish Ministry of Labour and Social Security regulations. Key credentials include: Ministry of Labour authorization document; qualified engineer(s) on staff with relevant mechanical or electrical engineering degrees; certified installation technicians; and valid occupational safety and liability insurance. Who is responsible for the elevator after installation — the manufacturer, installer, or building owner?
Responsibility is shared across parties. The manufacturer is responsible for the design and compliance of the equipment with applicable standards. The installer is responsible for the quality of the installation work and compliance with the installation manual and EN 81-20. After commissioning and acceptance, ongoing responsibility for safe operation shifts to the building owner, who must engage an authorized maintenance company and ensure periodic inspections are carried out on schedule. Any modifications after acceptance require re-certification.
